We have had a really lovely week at school this week! We have started to travel around the world to learn about Christmas traditions in other countries! So far we have visited the United States, Mexico, France and England. We even took a little trip to Toronto to check out the oldest Santa Claus parade in Canada! The kids have been really enjoying 'flying' to new countries and seeing how different people celebrate. They get a stamp in their passport for each new place and they think it's hilarious to try and sneak past customs without showing their passports!
Here are some highlights from the week:
we have introduced the sight words little, oh and she. We continue to point out and notice other sight words that we have practiced. If you're interested in printing some sight word flash cards, or finding out more, check out this website: https://sightwords.com/sight-words/fry/
students are beginning to read 'just right' books independently (see below to find out how to choose a 'just right' book!)
if you would like to further support your child's reading, particularly our Grade 1 students, you can check out this website: https://www.starfall.com/h/ltr-classic/
we are beginning to talk about place value and how each digit of a number has a value
we are working on writing more structured sentences to build our writing stamina. Next week we will be creating a collaborative book.
we have been working hard on our concert song and practice it most days! We will be practicing on the stage very soon! The concert will be held on December 17th at 1pm.
Thank you for all your do to support your children at home! Have a great weekend!
