Hello everyone! We've been working very hard this week! One of the new things we have been practicing has been our Dakelh language! We've learned 2 piggy back songs to practice some basic vocabulary. The class can now say the words for good morning, good afternoon, how are you, I'm happy you are here, what is your name, my name is.., as well as the words for cat and dog. Next week, we are going to practice the words for yes/no as well as a few more animal words. I've added pictures to the bottom of the song posters, so you can take a look for yourself!

Here are some other highlights from this week:

  • we are working on r-controlled vowels and their sounds (or, ar, er, ir, ur) and how to recognize them

  • we have continued to practice our s-blends and r-blends

  • we've continued to work on our fictional stories and are just finishing them up! Next week, we hope to begin another story! The class is focused on using setting, character, problem and solution in their stories.

  • in math, we have explored a new tool called Cuisinaire rods which help to build mental math fluency, as well as help students to develop past counting on their fingers

  • This week, we have worked on a multi-part art project to display in the hallway, we're almost done! Just final touches to go!

  • Below are the two piggyback songs we've been using to learn our Dakelh language! You can find the audio files for how to sing each one in the 'Music' tab on the navigation bar!

Next week, we will have a visitor to our classroom! Her name is Ms. Davis and she will be a student teacher in our classroom starting in late February! She will be with us for 3 weeks to begin building her skills as a teacher. We are so excited to have her start to visit us, hopefully once a week until her start date!

Have a great weekend!

Mrs. Parkinson
