Hello everyone! We had such a fun ending to our week this week! Today we had our field trip to the skating rink and the class had an absolute blast! They all gave it their best go, and kept getting up and trying again, no matter how many times they fell! I was so impressed with them! Then in the afternoon, we had a really fun performance by Professor Wow, who taught us about science while performing circus tricks! The kids were amazed with so many of his tricks, so if you see them trying to balance things on their hand, that's where they got it from!
Some other highlights this week:
we have been practicing digraph sounds th, sh, ch and wh and noticing them in the books we read together
we've been working on our writing stamina and beginning to move into writing multiple sentences using classroom tools to try to spell more words correctly (things like 'and, my, can' etc.)
in Math, we've been practicing addition and subtraction skills with numbers to 20 to build speed and accuracy
we began our Christmas Around the World unit to explore Christmas traditions in other countries. We started with Canada and the United States. Next week we'll travel to Mexico. The kids have been very excited about it!
We have also been reading silly poems by Shel Silverstein in class, and many students were excited to take out poetry books from our school library this week!
We have started small group guided reading in the class. Small groups read a book with me, talk about the story and then have it in their book box to practice for the week. We will continue this practice moving forward.
We've also begun practicing some rules of writing, with a focus on what makes a sentence and some of the mechanics of writing.
Overall, we've had a really great week and I hope they enjoy having Monday off next week! On Friday, November 29th, it is primary report writing day, so there will be no school on Friday as well for K-3!
Have a great weekend!
