This week has flown by! We have been working especially hard on a piece of writing about our families. The main focus of this job was for them to practice using classroom tools independently to write as much as they could about their family. It was as unsupported as possible, so we have a clear idea of what their writing looks like at this point in the school year. We will compare this piece of writing with one that they do in June to see how much they have grown! You will get a chance to see this piece of writing during parent-teacher conferences next week!

Here are some other highlights from our week:

  • we have worked very hard on sorting a variety of tools using different attributes. As a class, they came up with 34 ways to sort their objects!

  • we learned about the pumpkin life cycle and practiced some Science vocabulary

  • we focused on the sight words 'in' and 'to' this week, and continue to practice the other sight words we've learned and to use them in our writing

  • we read a poem this week called 5 Little Pumpkins which the students really enjoyed and practiced listening for rhyming words and then finding them in the poem.

Next week, we have the opportunity to see a local Indigenous musician, Kym Gouchie! She is putting on a free concert for schools! We will be taking the bus into town on Wednesday October 23rd for an hour long performance. Please send a signed field trip form back to school by Tuesday if possible! Below is a video of Kym Gouchie singing her song Every Mountain.

Have a great weekend!
