What a whirlwind this week has been! With all of the excitement leading up to Halloween, there was lot of happy energy in our classroom! This week, we finished up our pumpkin unit by using real pumpkins to practice measurement with non standard units. We used chain links to measure the circumference of the pumpkins, and Unifix cubes to measure the height! We also practiced some estimation by trying to estimate how many seeds were in the pumpkins. We were all very surprised when one of our pumpkins had ZERO seeds! Our big buddies gave us a ton of help with the counting, so we could make sure we had the numbers correct. They also helped us to carve our pumpkins on Halloween, so we could have some excellent decorations in our classroom! (Pictures below!)
Here are some other highlights of our week:
we practiced the sight words 'the' and 'go' this week, in addition to our other words
we began practicing digraph sounds, which is when two letters work together to make one sound (sh, ch, th, and wh)
we have continued our work on patterns and sorting, using worksheets and manipulatives that they can sort by hand
we have begun to play an online math game called Prodigy, which the class has really been enjoying!
we looked through all of our writing samples so far, and each student chose their 2 best books that they would like me to mark
Last week was very busy so I didn't manage to make a post, but the biggest highlight of the week was heading down to see the Kym Gouchie concert! The class did an excellent job showing expected behaviour at the concert and I was very proud of them! The music was wonderful and we all had a really great time!
Have a great weekend!
