What a busy week we've had! We ended our week with a really wonderful day! We were lucky enough to have a local student come to our school and teach us Metis Jigging! Everyone gave it their best try and it was so much fun! She explained some cool things about Metis culture to the class and had them do some dot art to represent beading. They make for a lovely, colourful display in our classroom!
In our class, we have classroom money called 'birdie bucks' which the students recieve for showing expected behaviour, being helpful and kind, or getting complimented from other adults! We have a variety of rewards that the students can use their money for, with the most expensive reward being a pajama and movie day! Well, wouldn't you know it, our class has been doing such an amazing job of following expectations and working hard and they were able to purchase the movie already! WOW! So we had a great afternoon of colouring and watching a movie together to celebrate all their hard work. I have been so impressed!
Here are some highlights from the week:
we have been practicing sorting various things in Math using common attributes (colour, size, shape etc.)
We have been working on the sight words 'a, on and see', as well as continuing to practice the other words we've learned previously
the class has been working on writing full sentences in their writing books, even if they are patterned sentences and I have been thrilled with their efforts!
we began learning about pumpkins using a non-fiction text and we created a classroom chart about pumpkins
we began talking about the 'counting on' strategy which is where you put the big number in your head and start counting forward from there to solve math equations
we also had picture day this week! Your child should have their code for ordering pictures in their planners. If your child missed photo day, there will be retakes later on, we just don't have a date for when that will be!
thank you to everyone who came to see our learning space during open house! It was so lovely to see you all!
Hot lunch forms are due back on October 16th. I will send out a reminder next week via email. I hope you all enjoy a restful Thanksgiving weekend!
Take care!
