We've had a very busy week this week! We have been working very hard on exploring writing our own stories. This includes using pictures and words to create a story. We have begun to talk about colouring expectations for our stories and next week, we are going to focus more on telling a single story across several pages, using simple sentence structure. Here are some other highlights from our week:

  • we created our own ladybug word problems and are solving each others' work

  • we have been working on the letter sound for 'n' and reviewing letters from previous weeks (m, s, a, c)

  • we have practiced the sight words 'you' and 'can' this week and have reviewed previous sight words (like, and, I, yes)

  • we have reached 14 minutes of reading stamina! This is where we focus on looking through our books and creating stories using the pictures, or reading the words for those who are able to

  • we had a Terry Fox assembly and enjoyed running for Terry Fox. Our class made a wonderful display for the assembly that they were very proud of! (picture below!)

  • we read The Secret Pocket by Peggy Janicki and The Orange Shirt Story by Phyllis Webstad, which discusses some of the hardships of residential school in a kid appropriate way.

Next week, we do not have school on Monday in honor of Truth and Reconciliation day. There will be a celebration held from 2-4 at Lheidli T'enneh Memorial Park, which will include a traditional welcome, drumming, and performances by jingle dress dancers and pow wow dancers.

Have a great long weekend!
