Hello everyone! We have worked really hard at school this week! One of the big things we did this week was to learn about negative thoughts. We watched a short video of a young boy discussing how he feels when he gets frustrated or when something feels hard. We learned that negative thoughts are unkind and untrue things we tell ourselves. As a class, we practiced changing negative thoughts into positive thoughts and came up with some examples of how we could change words to be more positive and kind to ourselves.
Here are some other highlights from our week:
We have learned the sight words we, see, and all
practiced addition and subtraction with zero facts (0+4=4 etc.)
we began using different attributes to sort objects in math
we have been solving word problems created by students in class
we practiced adding detail to our pictures during writing, to make our work easier to understand for the reader
we are beginning to write short, simple sentences in our writing and transitioning away from single letters, or single word labels
we read to partners during our reading block using familiar poems practiced in class
we had UNBC teacher candidates come visit on Tuesday and help us with our work!
Next week we have Open House on Wednesday from 4-6pm. There will be a similar set up to last year, where you get a sticker or stamp on your 'passport' and when you've visited all of the places needed, you will exchange it for an ice cream sundae! During open house, there will be a sign up in class for parent-teacher conferences which are on October 23rd and 24th! I am looking forward to seeing you all there!
Also happening next week is picture day! It will be on Thursday, Oct. 10th!
Have a great weekend!
Mrs. Parkinson
