We have had a very busy week this week! The class was very excited about our hot dog roast this afternoon! We enjoyed the walk down to the lake and the time spent with friends and family. Thank you so much to the parents who were able to make it out for the afternoon. This week we began learning and practicing patterns in Math as well as counting by 5's and 10's. At the bottom of this post, there is a cute counting video that I shared with the class! We began writing our own books and working on being good authors by having illustrations and text on each page. We are accepting all invented spelling for now and as we learn and grow, we will move into writing more formal sentences. Many Grade 2 students are writing full sentences. We learned about Terry Fox and the Marathon of Hope, and will continue to learn about him next week. We also began a reading program to support learning phonics and begin sounding out words for Grade 1 students, and Grade 2 students are using the Read Naturally Program to build their fluency and comprehension. Below are some other highlights of our week:

  • practiced the sight words 'I', 'like' and 'yes'

  • practiced the sounds for letters S and M and noted that are continuous sounds, with M being a nasal sound

  • we practiced using pattern blocks to extend patterns

  • we have been creating simple equations during calendar both addition and subtraction

  • We have practiced classroom routines and expectations

  • students have been writing their own planner messages

Have a great weekend!
